Description
Halmaddi Paste- 1 KG Pack. Halmaddi is a natural resinous substance that is native to the state of Meghalaya in northeastern India. It is extracted from the Ailanthus Malabarica tree, also known as the Indian tree of heaven or the Indian mast tree. Halmaddi has been used for centuries by the people of Meghalaya for a variety of purposes, including as a binding agent in incense sticks, as a waterproofing material for roofs, and as a traditional adhesive for handicrafts.
Halmaddi has a distinctive aroma and is known for its sticky and viscous texture. It is usually brownish-yellow or dark brown in color, and can be dissolved in organic solvents like ethanol or acetone. In recent years, halmaddi has gained popularity as an ingredient in natural skincare products due to its moisturizing and healing properties.
However, the use of halmaddi has also raised concerns over sustainability and deforestation. The Ailanthus Malabarica tree is endangered in some areas, and the demand for halmaddi has led to over-harvesting and exploitation. Efforts are underway to promote sustainable harvesting practices and protect the tree and the traditional knowledge associated with its use.
Raw halmaddi paste, in the raw it smells earthy with a high note of turpentine or petrol. When dried and burned it smells balsamic with a dry earth undertone and a slightly floral top note. Halmaddi is traditionally used in incense to give a robust body to the base ingredients and also bind them, so it is hard to find one that typifies this ingredient alone.
The smell is basically like a bouquet of roses, extremely floral, it’s almost as if I’ve decorated my entire room with fragrant roses. It’s very natural, clean, fresh, crisp, gentle, slightly sweet, but it’s predominantly a fresh floral smell.
